Three people in a fishing boat that collided with a speed boat last Friday off the MacArthur Causeway were injured and transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.
Boating Accidents Common in Florida
The Sunshine State, with it’s warm climate and beautiful beaches, is an ideal place for all sorts of water activities: boat and jet ski riding, water skiing, tubing, kayaking, parasailing, etc. However, often times, when these activities are carried out without adequate care the result is injury, pain, suffering and even death, instead of enjoyment. As recently stated by a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Agency spokesman when talking about two separate incidents: “We’re the boating capital of the world so we’re also the boating accident capital”…
In one case, a pair of jet skis operated by a husband and wife (with kids as passengers) crashed into one another, sending the wife to a Miami hospital with bone fractures and a major hand injury.
Boating Accidents Happen For Various Reasons
Whether it’s carelessness, inexperience, excessive speed or something more serious like alcohol consumption, accidents involving boats or other watercraft happen with alarming frequency…In fact, the preceding four are the most common reasons for boating accidents in the United States, according to the latest statistical report available issued by the Coast Guard.
